Atletico boss Diego Simeone certainly tried his best to keep Trippier at Los Colchoneros despite his desire for a Premier League return, even trying to convince the England international to stay at the club in the car park at the training ground on the day he said his goodbyes.

He just looks like someone who get you motivated before a game and that, Trippier said about the Atletico chief recently. Hes the most passionate manager Ive ever played for 100 per cent.

Nobody comes close. Hes that passionate the way he runs La Liga and the club itself. You know hes the boss.

Trippier has proven to be a Newcastle bargain in recent months, spearheading the north east outfit with the captains armband this season. His club form has also seen Gareth Southgate trust him as his first choice right-back at the World Cup.

Trippier followed in Alan Shearers footsteps by becoming the first Newcastle player to captain England at a major tournament when he received the armband after Harry Kanes withdrawal during Mondays win.
