Wilfried Zaha will be a free agent next summer and Crystal Palace are facing up to the possibility of losing their star man for nothing, with Barcelona eyeing a potential deal

Barcelona are reportedly open to signing Wilfried Zaha after being offered the chance to negotiate with theCrystal Palacewinger.

Zahas current deal with Palace is due to expire next summer and he will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with other clubs from January 1.Barcelonahave been mooted to have held an interest in the 29-year-old in recent times, but have opted against making a move due to the size of the transfer fee required to prise him from Selhurst Park.

But with Zaha set to be a free agent in June, the Catalan club could now be set to revive their interest ahead of next season, amid claims the Ivorian international wants to test himself in Spain. While Palace are desperate to keep their star man, the prospect of losing him for nothing could also open the door to them considering a potential cut-price transfer in January, albeit reluctantly.

Premier League 2023/24 start and end dates confirmed as mid-season break returns

According to Spanish publicationSport, Barcelona are seriously considering signing Zaha if the total package involved in securing a deal is affordable. There are still a number of financial restrictions being navigated by Barca due to their troublesome economic situation, but it did not stop them from splashing the cash on new transfers in the summer.

Among their new arrivals were several free transfers from thePremier League, including Hector Bellerin fromArsenaland ex-Chelsea duo Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso, with Zaha possibly the next star to make the switch from England. Barca do have several options already in the wide areas, including ex-Man City talent Ferran Torres, former Leeds star Raphinha, plus Ousmane Dembele.

But a move for Zaha would represent a significant coup for Barca should they pull it off, given there is certain to be a fierce battle for his signature. Arsenal were interested in acquiring his services three years ago but opted to instead pursue a move for Nicolas Pepe, which has failed to bear fruit.

That same window Palace rejected an offer fromEvertonworth 70million plus the offer of two players in return. Zaha had only recently signed a new long-term contract at the time and despite handing in a transfer request, was not given permission to move on as Palace stood firm on their asking price.

No clubs have been willing to match that price tag in the years since, but Zaha remains widely recognised as one of the best players in the Premier League outside of the top six. Zaha, who had a disappointing spell atManchester Unitedearlier in his career,is reportedly said to be very fond of Liverpool, though there is no indication at this stage whether the Anfield club are interested in signing him.

Which club would be a good fit for Zaha? Have your sayin the comments below.

Zaha himselfhas made efforts to play down talk surrounding his future, tellingSky Sports: Im happy obviously, I just wanted to kick on from last season so yeah Im happy. Im amongst the goals, so Im enjoying my football. How many times have I seen my name next to transfer stuff? Me, I never speak on these things.

My contract is up when my contract is up - Im a Crystal Palace player. The only thing Im focused on is doing well for the club. Thats it. I take every day as it comes because I dont know whats going to happen in the future.

So I cant sit here and say: this is my plan for this. No, Im only fixated on what Im doing tomorrow in training and then what Im doing Sunday. So yeah Im very devoted to Palace and thats all Im thinking about.

Despite his impending free agent status, a deal for Zaha would still amass a significant cost once wages and any potential signing-on fee are factored in,though the landscape for players in his position appears to have shifted.

Chelseahave been credited with having an interest in a deal, though the Blues currently possess an abundance of wide players. The Mailreport Palace have made a verbal offer of a bumper new contract to Zaha, including a raise on his 130,000-per-week wage, though talks are said to be ongoing.
